Library Donations

Purchasing gift and memorial books is a wonderful and unique way to remember loved ones or to mark special occasions such as births and birthdays, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries.  Civic-minded businesses might also want to make a contribution to the community by donating a reference set or magazine subscription to the library.

With your tax-deductible contribution, the Library will purchase an item in the category you choose.  For instance, if the person you are honoring with a memorial book was an avid gardener, the Library will be happy to enhance its collection by selecting a book about gardening.  If you are a physician, you might choose to sponsor a donation to the health reference collection.

Acknowledgment of your gift is sent to the individual or to the family of the person being honored.  A bookplate imprinted with your name and the name of the person being honored is placed in the book before it goes on the shelf for check-out.

Ongoing Book Sale
The Friends of the Somers Library's ongoing book sale is in need of donated items.  Acceptable donations include clean and undamaged soft and hard cover fiction and nonfiction books. Non-fiction books should have been published within the last five years. Also accepted are music CDs and DVDs. The Library reserves the right to evaluate, select and dispose of any donation that does not meet the needs and/or policy guidelines of the Library's collections. Donated items cannot be accepted with any conditions. 

Not accepted are Textbooks; Videocassettes, Reader's Digest Condensed Books; National Geographic Magazines; books with yellowed pages, torn covers, without covers; waterlogged or musty material; and books or magazines that have been highlighted or marked with pen or pencil.

Items may be dropped off at the Reference Desk in the Library during our regularly scheduled hours.

Donations to the Library's Friends Group may be made at any time and in any amount. The Gift Fund is used for library materials and programming. Donations may be made in person at the Library or mailed to the Library Director at P.O. Box 443; Somers, New York 10589. To become a member of the Friends organization, please call the library at (914) 232-5717 or stop by the library for your membership application.  Annual dues are only $20.
