Teen Tutoring at the Somers Library-Algebra Help:  Monday, January 9 & 23 at 3:15-4:30 pm - Join us at the Somers Library for tutoring sessions in Algebra.  These sessions will help students with: Topic Help, Examples, & Homework Help.  The tutoring sessions focus on topics found in the Algebra I class and is geared towards students who are currently taking Algebra I or planning to take it next year.  These sessions will be moderated by Somers student Nitin Seshadri, who has created a website called Mathematica.  Audience:  Middle school or high school students who are taking Algebra 1 this year or planning to take it next year.  Space is limited, please register on our online events calendar at www.somerslibrary.org or call the library at 232-5717.

Teen Debate Workshop:  Saturdays 1/7, 1/14 & 1/28 from 10:15 - 11:45 am -  This workshop is designed to teach students the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation skills that will help develop confidence, self-esteem, leadership, creativity, critical thinking skills, and communication skills. Teen Snowman Building Contest:  Saturday, January 28th from 2:00 -3:30 pm - Join us at the Somers Library for some fun in the snow! In the side yard of the library, we will create our snowmen and choose a winner! If we don't have snow, come anyway to make Model Magic snowmen in the library program room. Plenty of hot chocolate for all! Of course, if there is snow - please dress appropriately! Teen Parent Talk:  Is Your Child Academically Inconsistent? - Saturday, February 4th at 12:00 noon. (Snow Date—2/11 @ 12:00pm) - This discussion will focus on what to do when kids are not doing their homework and begin to under-perform in school. Specific discussion topics include: Homework patterns, Teens’ perception vs. reality, overcoming the parental “denial” cycle, the homework conversation dynamic, test prep vs. homework, and improving your home’s academic environment. Teen Parent Talk - Understanding College Rankings:  Thursday, February 9th at 6:30 pm (*Snow Date is 3/9 at 6:30 pm) - Math professor and SAT tutor, Mike Goodman presents the plusses and minuses of the popular college ranking formulas and explains how just 3 numbers tell you almost everything you need to know.  This presentation is geared towards teens and parents of teens beginning their college search. Teen Cupcake Challenge:  Saturday, February 11th @ 2:00 pm - Teen Cupcake Challenge (Snow Date—2/25) - Show off your cupcake-making skills at the Somers Library!  As teams, teens will compete against others to create a great tasting, perfectly presented cupcake.  Of course, the cupcake decorators will have challenges like themes and secret ingredients to make everything just a little more interesting!  This program is for teens/tweens in grades 6 & up.  Space is limited, please register online at www.somerslibrary.org or call 914-232-5717.
 

Teen Pokemon Club:  Fridays starting 1/20 from 3-4:30 pm - Join us at the Somers Library  to meet, discuss and battle your friends using your Nintendo 3DS (or even using your cards)!  The library will supply snacks and an opportunity to meet friends interested in Pokemon! This program is for teens/tweens in grades 5th and up.  Meeting dates are 1/20, 2/3, 2/17, 3/3, 3/17, 4/7, 4/21, 5/5, 5/19, & 6/2. Register online at www.somerslibrary.org or call 914-232-5717.

Anime Club - This club meets every Wednesday beginning 1/4 from 3:15-4:30 pm. Join us for a chance to watch anime from Crunchyroll with your friends!

Anime Nights! - Fridays once a month from 4:30 - 6:30 pm starting 1/20. Meets one Friday a month from 4:30-6:30 pm on these dates 1/20, 2/17, 3/17, 4/21, & 5/19.

Teen Advisory Group (TAG) - Help volunteer at the Somers Library. We are looking for middle and high school students who are interested in developing and implementing teen programs/events, creating book displays, enhancing the library's website, and anything else we can think of.  All members will receive community service hours.
